My answer to Why is postgresql popular with django? on Quora
Partly because the first applications developed on Django (before it was even called Django) used PostgreSQL, so it’s had great PostgreSQL support baked in from the start.
Another possible reason: PostgreSQL is a more full-featured database than MySQL, and since the Django ORM makes it equally easy to work with either out of the box you may as well go with PostgreSQL.
